Let's go fishing

The City of Vilonia is applying for an Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism Outdoor Recreation Matching Grant to help fund the Weaver Family Park which will initially include a fishing pond with a walking trail around about half of it. It will be located on North Mount Olive Road between the Vilonia Museum of Veterans and Military History and the future Harbor Home Complex.

As the image shows, the proposed plan includes two earthen piers, one fishing pier, one covered pavilion, a paved walking trail around roughly half the pond, several benches, and a parking lot. The pond will be stocked by the Arkansas Department of Game and Fish. The park and all amenities will be open to the public and free to use during operating hours (7:00 am to 10:00 pm Sunday through Thursday and 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday (Ord. No. 2002-1, Sec. 1; please see the Vilonia Municipal Code §12.08.01 for current hours).

A public meeting is to be held preceding the June Vilonia City Council meeting and will be live streamed on our city Facebook page.

Community outreach surveys are available online and in print. They must be returned before July 1, 2021, to guarantee their inclusion in the grant application.
