TIPS for SEVERE WEATHER from VILONIA FIRE DEPARTMENT

Key Safety Measures:

  • Stay Informed:

Monitor local weather forecasts and alerts from the National Weather Service (NWS) or Local TV providers, as this needs to be your first line of defense. Tornado sirens will be activated based on these alerts, which should be considered your last defense.  

  • Identify Safe Shelters:

Know where to seek shelter in case of severe weather. 

The Vilonia School system has 4 storm shelters, that the community can use after school hours. During school hours, the shelters are for the kids and staff.

1.      Vilonia High School – 1164 Main Street

a.      Automatically unlocks when siren is activated

2.      Vilonia Elementary School – 15 Eagle St, Enter through the cafeteria area

a.      Will be manually unlocked during the storm activity

3.      Frank Mitchell Intermediate School – 98 S MT Olive

a.      Automatically unlocks when siren is activated

4.      Vilonia Primary School – 4 Bane Ln, Conway

a.      Automatically unlocks when siren is activated

  • Exercise Caution:

Avoid unnecessary travel and stay indoors during periods of severe weather. 

  • Listen to Official Alerts:

Pay close attention to any warnings or instructions issued by local authorities.
